Once home to Keeter Hardware, it was then home to one of the first textile manufacturers in the area, Doncaster/Tanner Clothing. Locally owned, Tanner started as Doncaster Shirt Company in 1931 but then famously transitioned to a high-end women's clothing, direct sales model in 1935.
"Tanner of North Carolina," was introduced in 1954 for a more casual line sold through department stores and boutiques. Tanner maintained their main office off Rock Road in Rutherfordton until 2018 when the company closed permanently on.
Now this building is home to Main Street Market, a locally owned sandwich shop known for its food and entertainment such as karoke, music bingo, trivia and live music.
